With many people around the world in lockdown or self-isolation, the thought of spending a long time away from your usual routine can seem daunting at least. But why not use that time to take a step back and reflect on that usual routine, and see what’s really working for you, and where it might be time to make some changes.

Using the time at home to reflect, reset and plan for the future could be just the opportunity you need to get unstuck, make a change in direction, or work towards some exciting new life goals. Anything is possible, from a few small tweaks to the things that aren’t working so well, to a complete clean slate and fresh start.

While you have time and space without your usual routine and demands of life, here are some things you might like to think about.

Your Values: What are your core values? Think about your routines and relationships. Are your values being met in your everyday life, or are they being conflicted by some of the people and situations around you.

Breaking habits: What habits or behaviour do you have that really don’t serve you anymore? Habits are usually serving a purpose for us, sometimes it’s comfort, stress relief, or it’s just familiar. Think about how you might get your needs met in a more healthy way. Work on your mindset, self-esteem or stress-management, if you can see that these are driving your behaviour.

Pressing the reset button: What would a fresh start look like? If you could start again tomorrow with complete choice in your life, what would be really important to you and what new things would you bring in? Which relationships would you keep or leave behind? What experiences would you want to have?

Planning for the future: This is the perfect time to start planning ahead and setting out the action steps you need to take towards your goals. Get really clear on what you want, create a timeline, and work out the action steps you need to start working towards those exciting new goals.
