Here at Pavelka, we’ve all been troubled by the latest report from Gallup (and others), which looks at the state of the global workplace in 2024.

If you still haven’t read them, here’s a quick rundown of the findings. It’s a startling picture…

• A staggering 77% of the global workforce is either actively disengaged or not engaged at all

• 64% say they experienced toxic behavior*

• 83% say they would take a pay cut to be happier at work**

…and that’s just the start.

These are more than just statistics – they’re a wake-up call for leaders everywhere.

But how do you begin to face this challenge?

Accept it, own it, but know it’s not your fault

It’s important to know – acceptance is always the first step towards positive change.

As a leader, you must first acknowledge that these shocking new levels of disengagement exist – and the people you know are unhappy, stressed and disengaged.

But also know this. What’s being reported is a systemic issue, not a collection of individual problems.

These reports have revealed that all our workplaces, as a whole, are failing to meet the most fundamental needs of our people and their wellbeing.

This means it’s not your fault. Because it’s also a problem for leaders just like you, in many other organizations all around the world.

And while it’s not your fault, you do have to do something about it.
